What is SMP?

Scalp Micropigmentation (or a “hair tattoo”) is a non-surgical hair loss solution where impressions are strategically placed to supplement your existing hair follicles. Whether you would like the appearance of a full head of shaved hair or to combat a thinning scalp with longer hair, SMP is the solution you have been looking for. You can see a more detailed guide on SMP here.

Who is it for?

Around 25% of men who have hereditary baldness start losing hair before the age of 21, and by 35 around 66% of men will have experienced some degree of hair-loss. For many, balding is a process that we don't like, and can't control.

SMP is for people who are lacking confidence due to hair-loss. As mentioned before it is a non-surgical solution to conditions such as alopecia, thinning hair, pattern baldness or receding hairlines.

While not only boosting confidence, it is also a great way to cover scar tissue or imperfections because of other treatments.

If you are fed up of your scalp dictating your future, mood and self confidence then SMP may be for you.

The Benefits

  • Minimal maintenance
After all your sessions are complete you will have little maintenance to look after your new appearance apart from top sessions. It can last for years before fading.
  • Affordable
SMP is significantly less expensive than surgical solutions, and the benefits are also that once it is complete, it is complete.
  • Boost in confidence
Create the appearance you desire with help from the artist through planning in consultations. No scalp is the same, but once complete you don't have to worry about your hair going anywhere.
  • Safe procedure
At Visionary Scalps we take extra precaution, but unlike transplants, SMP is not intrusive meaning there is less room for complications and the healing process in significantly shorter. No chemicals are used, just a tattoo gun and sanitation products.
  • Authentic look
The reason we do multiple sessions is to ensure that your treatment looks as natural as possible.

Procedure Steps

Below is our process on our SMP procedure. The treatment will be complete after a number of sittings, which is usually a minimum of 3, potentially more depending on the individual.

01 - Consultation

The process kicks off with a detailed consultation. We will assess your current situation and plan the route forward, including styles, the amount of sessions and requirements for your first treatment session. We will also walk you through the procedure in person.

During this consultation any of your questions will be answered so you have everything you need to being the treatment.

02 - First Sitting

For your scalp micropigmentation to look the best quality and authentic is simply can't be done in a day of treatment. As a rule of thumb you will require a minimum of three sittings.

In your first session, we will start mapping out your treatment (of course this will vary depending on your required treatment). After mapping out, you will be left with some initial impressions.

03 - Second Sitting

In your second session, we will sit down and make more impressions to give your scalp a layered looking effect. It will start to all come together in this session. Grain, density and darkness will be added to give a natural effect.

After each session, you will start to see the results take shape.

04 - Third Sitting

For some individuals, this may be your last treatment, but in this session, we will make more impressions on your scalp and finishing touches.

We will also give you a complete aftercare guide to ensure that you are left with long-lasting results.

05 - Fourth Sitting (Potential)

Don’t worry, if you require more than three sessions it isn’t bad, it just means that we need to do a little extra work to ensure we give you the best results possible.

This could be down to many factors, such as the size of the area being treated, skin type, potential scarring and more.

06 - Aftercare

Your treatment is now complete! Aftercare is just as important as the treatment to ensure long lasting effects.

Upon completion we will talk your through how to maintain your scalp micropigmentation, but you can also find a detailed aftercare guide here too.

Our Treatments

Male Pattern Baldness

Male pattern baldness

From receding hairlines to thinning crowns or total baldness we can treat it all. The hair is shaved low so we can match with the impressions.

Hairlines are designed to the clients needs whether this be shaped up, naturally straight or receded.

Thinning Hair

thinning hair

Hair density treatment is a great use of SMP. The hair is kept long and we work between the strands to darken the scalp.

This is an effective procedure for anyone suffering from a thinning scalp and wants a low maintenance solution.

Alopecia CamoFlague

Alopecia camoflague

Alopecia is unfortunately incurable, although that doesn't mean there aren't ways to disguise it.

We Scalp Micropigmentation to merge existing hair with balding areas conceals the effected areas. We use a similar process to disguise thinning hair.

SMP For Darker Skin

SMP for darker skin

SMP is not all done the same. A professional artist will tailor the procedure to their client's needs. One of which is skin tone.
