Andros Townsend Hair Journey

Who is Andros Townsend?

It's becoming a trend that celebrities worldwide undergo Hair Restoration Surgery – including world-famous celebrities like Lewis Hamilton. Andros Townsend was the next celebrity to join. Townsend is well-known for completing a 30-yard volley goal against Manchester City in December 2018. The former England player has been notorious for his sharp hairstyle and his huge afro beard for many years. The superstar started having trouble when his hairline began receding.

Being so prominent in the public eye meant that Townsend felt the need to resolve his hair loss issues, searching for a treatment that would restore his bold, instead of bald, look.

What did Andros Townsend do to his hair?

Hair loss is common as we grow older, in fact, according to the NHS we lose between 50-100 hairs a day without even noticing. Unfortunately, Townsend suffered from Androgenic alopecia which is also more commonly known as balding and was showing noticeable signs in 2016.

From following images over the years it is clear to see that he has undergone two treatments to restore his hair. The first is scalp micropigmentation and the second is a hair transplant.

Andros Townsend Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

A little over a month before surgery the star was alleged to have micropigmentation on his scalp. From the pictures taken of Townsend, it is pretty clear to see that it is true.

This technique is sometimes called a hair tattoo. This is where SMP practitioners tattoo black ink dots mimicking hair follicles, which gives the appearance of a full head of hair, which often looks shaved. The treatment can be used to conceal scars, thicken the appearance of hair or in Townsend's case, restore receding hairlines.

It was noticeable that he was losing hair. He had never seen follicle shaped black dots in his old photos but that changed. The hairline that was once receding magically regrew, and to be honest, we think he smashed this look!

Andros Townsend Hair Transplant

If you have seen Townsend play recently, you will know that he looks fairly different now. His hairline has not just regrown, but his whole hair has!

If the sudden growth of hair is not enough for you there is also a noticeable scar on the back of his scalp which is often a tell-tale sign of hair transplantation. It is common for those who have had a hair transplant to camouflage their scar with scalp micropigmentation but it appears Townsend has not done this, but in fact, wanted to restore his hair.

Hair transplants are a very common treatment used by the general public and celebrities alike. It is simply the process of extracting and reapplying healthy hair follicles (grafts) from other areas of the scalp.

Whilst it has not been confirmed by the Everton star, many have come to the same conclusion, either he has had treatment, or his hair has magically regrown over the years.

Andros Townsend Hair Transplant Amazing Results

Few factors hinder a man's confidence like bald spots on the head. Originally Andros Townsend's hair transplant speculation began spreading on a public platform in 2018, with the Everton defender showing longer hair. He had his hair severely thinning and his hairline region had receded. The area in front was very visible. Townsend was 3-4 on the Norwood-Hamilton scale, a scale commonly used to measure hair loss.

Concluding Thoughts

Townsend is an excellent player and after both treatments looked great. It is common for footballers and everyday people alike to take pride in their appearance, especially their hair. When hair loss is thrown into the mix it can be damaging to even the biggest celebrities.

It is common for those affected by hair loss to try out different solutions to find the ones that are better suited to them, there is no one "solution fits all".

Whilst some feel they want to restore the length of their hair, a hair transplant is a better-suited option as it actually replaces the damaged hair follicles with grafts of healthy follicles.

For those wanting a less intrusive but sharp all the same appearance, scalp micropigmentation may be the better route. Scalp micropigmentation creates the impression of hair follicles with carefully placed ink dots, which is most commonly known for the shaved appearance.
